Sugar Cookies-No Spread RecipeApr 24, 2023
Sugar cookies are a classic and my recipe is not only delicious but these cookies WILL NOT spread out in the oven! They will hold their shape, making them easier to decorate and so much prettier. You can customize the design for any occasion. These cookies are soft, chewy, and delicious, with a simple and sweet flavor that everyone loves. This calls for almond extract, but if you don't love that amaretto flavor, just omit it.
Here is a simple recipe to make sugar cookies at home:
- 1 cup sugar (200 g)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature (226 g)
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons almond extract
- 3-3 1/2 cups flour (360-420 g)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder (4 g)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (2 g)
Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add in the egg and extracts to the butter mixture and continue mixing until fully combined.
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a dough forms. *note: climate can affect how much flour you need. Add 3 cups and if it is too sticky to handle, add a little bit at a time until it can be handled without sticking to your fingers.
Roll dough out to 1/4-1/2" thick (I like thicker cookies--they are softer)
Cut out with cookie cutters
Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. There is no need to space them too far apart.
THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT! Freeze on the baking tray for at least 20 minutes before baking
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies BARELY begin to turn a light golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorate as desired and happy baking!
